Ballina Seniors Forum & Regional Consultation

National Seniors Australia (NSA) is pleased to invite older people from the Ballina and Northern Rivers region to attend a free Seniors Forum, followed by a facilitated Regional Consultation exploring what supports or limits a good later life in regional communities.

 

Morning Seniors Forum (open to all attendees)
9:00am – 11:30am AEDT

 

The forum will provide practical information, expert advice and opportunities to connect with others, including:

  • NSA advocacy priorities and current campaigns
  • Tips to save money and make the most of NSA member benefits
  • Staying socially connected through local branches and community activities
  • Understanding government services and support available to older Australians
  • Practical information to help navigate retirement and later life
  • Morning tea and networking

Facilitated Regional Consultation Session (limited places, up to 20 people)
11:30am – 1:00pm AEDT

 

Following the forum, interested attendees are invited to participate in a facilitated discussion exploring Late Life Housing in the Region: Designs, Desires and Deficits.

Lunch will be provided from 1:00pm – 2:00pm for participants attending the consultation session.

 

This facilitated discussion will explore:

  • Housing preferences and aspirations for later life
  • Barriers to accessing suitable housing in regional communities 
  • The availability and suitability of housing options for older people
  • Design features that support ageing well and independence
  • Opportunities to improve housing outcomes for older Australians
  • How lived experience can inform National Seniors Australia's advocacy and research 
  • Insights gathered will contribute to NSA research and reporting to the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

 

Cost: Free event

 

Travel support: In recognition of current cost-of-living pressures, including rising fuel costs, NSA is offering a $20 fuel gift card to attendees travelling more than 20km to attend the forum. Fuel cards will be provided to those attending both the forum and consultation session at the conclusion of the consultation upon presentation of proof of address. Please note, one fuel card will be issued per person or couple.
